Vehicle's disc expired during lockdown will be given grace

Motor vehicle licences which expired during the lockdown will be given grace for owners to renew.

This was announced by the Department's Director for Transport Administration and Licensing Mr Suebel Mmono at Lichtenburg taxi rank this morning.

Speaking during the continuation of handing over Personal Protective Equipment and Disinfectants to the taxi operators in Lichtenburg this morning, Mmono said the Department is acting on resolutions made by the National Department of Transport in an effort to ease people's fears.

“All expired license discs as well as driver’s licenses are given grace period if they expired during lockdown. However all those expired before are punishable by fines," Mmono.

The Ditsobotla Local Municipality Mayor, Councilor Daniel Buthelezi appealed to all Ditsobotla citizens to comply with lockdown regulations as decision by the President is in the interest of the nation.

"We see what’s happening elsewhere around the world that this crisis needs astute management as demonstrated by the President."

The Department's Section 100 (1) Administrator Mr Mathabatha Mokonyama further appealed to all taxi associations to share the consignment irrespective of which associations they belong to. He also informed them that discussions are underway to find ways to ensure maintenance of their vehicles isn’t compromised.

Meanwhile, Head of the Department, Ms Botlhale Mofokeng led the team in the the Madibeng Local Municipality where they started to distribute the material at Brits taxi rank.

HoD is accompanied by Madibeng Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Mothibe and SANTACO representatives.

Operators are continuously urged to load 70% of their vehicles capacity and urged to comply with all lockdown regulations

According to reviewed lockdown regulations on public transport, operators are strictly allowed to operate from 05H00 to 10H00 and 16H00 to 21H00. Furthermore, they should only load 70 percent of the vehicle capacity, a regulation which also applies to private vehicles of those who are allowed to travel in position of permits.

The operators are also requested to disinfect their taxis every after load before getting other commuters, while further requested to provide sanitizers to their commuters.

In total, the Department will handover more than 428 boxes of gloves comprising of 100 each, 8140 masks and concentrated disinfectant chemicals comprising 20 litres which will be over 300 000 litres when diluted.
